A one-on-one consultation will be scheduled at Plastic Surgery Associates of Santa Rosa with Dr. Canales, Dr. Furnas, and Dr. Culbertson to determine if you are a good candidate for a labia majoraplasty.
During this appointment, we will come to understand your unique situation and medical history. We will share a variety of before-and-after photographs of labia majoraplasty patients to assist in visualizing your own results. How It Works
Surgical Technique
Once you are prepped for surgery, Dr. Canales, Dr. Furnas, or Dr. Culbertson will remove excess skin and protruding fatty tissue.
In cases where additional volume is needed, a fat transfer can be used to increase the shape of the labia majora. Once the targeted area is contoured to the predetermined aesthetic shape, the incisions are closed using absorbable sutures. Depending on the patient and the techniques included, a labia majoraplasty will take approximately one hour to perform.
What to Expect
Here’s what to expect with a labia majoraplasty in Northern California.
After your treatment
Women should expect the recovery from a labia majoraplasty to take from 1 – 2 weeks. Swelling is expected, and some patients may experience bruising and mild discomfort. These symptoms should improve dramatically over the first 5 – 7 days. However, residual swelling can last for six months or longer.
Recovery
If needed, prescription medication can be prescribed for pain, however, many women find over-the-counter pain relief to be adequate. Intermittent ice packs used 20 minutes ‘on’ and 20 minutes ‘off’ can be useful to reduce swelling as is keeping the bottom elevated when lying down. A surgical garment may be recommended to keep swelling down, as well.
Results
The results from a labia majoraplasty can be significant, as a smaller, tighter labia majora is created. Drooping, protruding tissue is eliminated, creating a smoother and more proportionate appearance to the vulva. Discomfort from tight clothing, exercise, and sexual activity is greatly improved. These results will last for years to come.

Where is the labia majoraplasty performed?
The labia majoraplasty is performed on-site in one of our state-of-the-art surgical suites. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia or a local anesthetic with sedation.
