Preparation
Preparing for your eyelid lift is an essential step in the treatment process. We will give you personalized instructions to make it as straightforward as possible. If you follow these instructions closely, you can make your procedure experience more comfortable, your recovery quicker, and your results better. For every eyelid lift patient, there are some general instructions that we recommend in the weeks leading up to your procedure:
- Avoid NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) like ibuprofen and aspirin. These substances, along with vitamin E and certain herbal supplements, can thin the blood and lead to excess bleeding during surgery.
- Avoid excessive sun exposure. Overly tanned or sunburnt skin can cause unnecessary discomfort during and after treatment.
- Quit smoking until you have made a full recovery. The negative health effects of smoking can cause complications and slow down healing.
- Maintain a healthy and active lifestyle and stay hydrated.

Eyelid Lift Procedure

Depending on the complexity of your treatment plan and your preferences, we will administer either local or general anesthesia to prevent discomfort during your surgery. When you are prepared, one of our experienced surgeons will perform the surgery. They will make the necessary incisions in discreet locations that will minimize visible scarring. They will then meticulously remove the excess skin, fat, and tissue from your eyelids to produce a youthful and firm appearance around the eyes. Upon completion, they will close your incisions. We will monitor your condition as the anesthesia wears off and let you know when it is safe to go home.
Recovery
Most patients require about one week of downtime to recover from their eyelid lift treatment. During this period, you may experience redness, swelling, and bruising around your treatment area. We recommend applying a cold compress to treat these symptoms. If you feel any discomfort, we can prescribe medication that can help. Avoid strenuous activity until you are completely healed.

FAQ
Will an eyelid lift fix wrinkles and crow’s feet?
Wrinkles on your forehead and in the corners of your eyes (Crow’s feet) might be better addressed with a brow lift or facelift. This is because the treatment area for blepharoplasty is limited to the upper and lower eyelids.
What about nonsurgical treatments instead of an eyelid lift?
Noninvasive skin tightening procedures, plus injectable treatments (for example, BOTOX, Juvéderm, and Restylane) may give you mild improvements. However, if you want to fix moderate to severe loose skin or would like to see results that last a long time, an eyelid will be more effective.
