The best patients for cheek enhancement in Northern California are adults who:

A fat transfer can be a good choice for men and women who don’t want to commit to the expense and time of surgical implants. Although a facial fat transfer is extremely safe with no chance for rejection or allergic reaction, not every patient will be a good candidate. Adequate donor fat must be available to achieve the desired results. Surgical cheek augmentation with implants is a good choice for those who are willing to take the time to recover after their surgery.

  • Have genetically hollow or flat cheeks

How It Works

Surgical Techniques

Cheek Augmentation

Before your cheek augmentation, we will complete a thorough assessment to decide on a customized treatment plan that is best for your unique cosmetic goals. In your initial consultation, you can select your treatment method: a fat transfer or cheek implants.

With a fat transfer, instead of placing a silicone implant, Dr. CanalesDr. Furnas, or Dr. Culbertson will remove fatty tissue from a donor area, such as the abdomen or thighs. This fat is then placed into a special centrifuge, separating the fat cells, which are then injected into the target area. These living cells adhere to the existing tissue, providing long-lasting and natural-looking results.

Cheek augmentation surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure at an accredited surgical facility because patients are generally sedated using general anesthesia. When you are ready, thin incisions are created in the gums and a pocket will be made above the cheekbones. Next, the selected implants will be placed and the incisions in the mouth will be closed. Cheek implant surgery typically lasts around an hour, and you can be allowed to go home with a family member or friend to start your recovery at home.

What to Expect

Here’s what to expect when you undergo a cheek augmentation in Northern California.

After the Treatment

After surgical cheek augmentation, you may have bruising, swelling, and tightness for around 1 – 2 weeks after your surgery. Strenuous activity that may put strain on your facial muscles (such as lifting weights) needs to be skipped for about 7 – 10 days. Total healing generally is achieved in around two months; however, the outcomes last for many years.

Side Effects

Following a fat transfer, the mid-face can be sore or tender with mild inflammation for around 3 – 5 days. Cold compresses and non-prescription pain medication may be used to lessen any discomfort. However, it’s also important to note that the area where the fat was extracted (thigh or abdomen) will also need time to heal. It’s important to follow all aftercare instructions accordingly to aid in proper healing.
