Loose and Hanging Facial skin. We all remember the face of our youth – relatively full and very little to pinch! As we age our skin loses collagen, at the approximate rate of 10% per decade. Sometime in our 40s, the elasticity of our skin diminishes and gravity starts to show its effect. As that happens, the skin, which uses to be taut around our skeletal frame starts to loosen, giving the appearance of excess skin and inside structures become visible as jowls.
Botox not only helps prevent and treat wrinkles, but it has almost replaced the need for brow lifts. Dermal fillers allow replacement of lost fat in the mid face and they allow for silhouette contouring of the lower face and lips. Add to that nonsurgical tightening devices, and the need for a facelift can be postponed to a later decade.
If started early, Botox. and fillers can act as preventative treatments to maintain a youthful, wrinkle-free appearance. Over time, of course, gravity and loss of collagen take over. For those patients surgical treatment is a better option
The combination of Botox, fillers and skin tightening devices has become known as a liquid facelift. In just a couple of hours, with very mnimal downtime, a face can be restored so that it appears quite a bit younger.
It is a procedure suited for patients in their 40s, when early signs of aging happen. It can be combined with fillers, Botox and skin peels or laser to yield great improvements. Most patients in their 50s or 60s need a more complete facelift. If you have a mini facelift when you should be having a more complete facelift, the results may not be optimal.
