About Labia Majoraplasty
The labia majoraplasty is performed to recontour and resize the labia majora, or the outer, hair-bearing portion of the vagina. Many women decide to undergo this procedure at Plastic Surgery Associates Santa Rosa every year because they are unhappy or self-conscious about the contours of their intimate area. In many cases, an abnormally shaped labia can also cause great discomfort when wearing tight clothing or during intercourse. Board-certified plastic surgeons Drs. Francisco Canales and Heather Furnas want you to be able to live your best life, which is why they are proud to offer labia majoraplasty. "I absolutely love this place! I had my lips done about 2 years ago I tagged a long with a friend of mine who would come here regularly and my experience was wonderful! Then I had my boobs done back in May because of so many people I know who went here and all I heard was good reviews! My experience was amazing the customer service is always amazing everyone is so kind and sweet and helpful! I am so happy with my boob job everything went exactly as they told me it would. I just had a tummy tuck 2 days ago and I wanted to make sure to leave a review because I again am beyond happy with my results and overall my entire experience! I highly recommend this place to anyone! I saw Dr Fernus for both my surgeries she is so sweet! Definitely worth every penny I feel so much better about myself since my operations!"- W.W. / Yelp / Nov 20, 2019
"Great, Amazing place good outcome"- L.J. / Facebook / Nov 15, 2019
"I am so happy with my results. I had an awful double chin issue that would not go away with diet or exercise. I tried Kybella with a different facility and received little to no results. Dr. Furnas did chin lipo for me and the results are fantastic. I had a lot of scar tissue due to the Kybella but she was able to still do a phenomenal job. My overall experience has been great and everyone there is so sweet and attentive. I've also been going there for all my botox needs. If anyone is at all on the fence about getting botox, I highly recommend going for it at this place. No pain and the results are the best. I look amazing, THANK YOU!"- M.G. / Google / Oct 18, 2019

A one-on-one consultation will be scheduled at Plastic Surgery Associates Santa Rosa with Dr. Furnas or Dr. Canales to determine if you are a good candidate for a labia majoraplasty. During this appointment, we will come to understand your unique situation and medical history. After discussing your aesthetic desires, we will explain what you can expect from the procedure, as well as the recovery requirements. We will share a variety of before-and-after photographs of labia majoraplasty patients to assist in visualizing your own results. If it is determined that a labia majoraplasty is right for you, a personalized treatment plan will be created.
Once you are prepped for surgery, Dr. Furnas and/or Dr. Canales will remove excess skin and protruding fatty tissue. In cases where additional volume is needed, a fat transfer can be used to increase the shape of the labia majora. Once the targeted area is contoured to the predetermined aesthetic shape, the incisions are closed using absorbable sutures. Depending on the patient and the techniques included, a labia majoraplasty will take approximately one hour to perform.
What to Expect
Women should expect the recovery from a labia majoraplasty to take from 1 – 2 weeks. Swelling is expected, and some patients may experience bruising and mild discomfort. These symptoms should improve dramatically over the first 5 – 7 days. However, residual swelling can last for six months or longer. If needed, prescription medication can be prescribed for pain, however, many women find over-the-counter pain relief to be adequate. Intermittent ice packs used 20 minutes 'on' and 20 minutes 'off' can be useful to reduce swelling as is keeping the bottom elevated when lying down. A surgical garment may be recommended to keep swelling down, as well.
The results from a labia majoraplasty can be significant, as a smaller, tighter labia majora is created. Drooping, protruding tissue is eliminated, creating a smoother and more proportionate appearance to the vulva. Discomfort from tight clothing, exercise, and sexual activity is greatly improved. These results will last for years to come.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does labia majoraplasty cost?
The needs of every patient are different so once a treatment plan is created, we can discuss your cost and payment options. We can also provide information on low-interest medical financing.
Where is the labia majoraplasty performed?
The labia majoraplasty is performed on-site in one of our state-of-the-art surgical suites. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia or a local anesthetic with sedation.
Generally, most women feel well enough to increase their daily activities in a day or two following their procedure. Most women are back to work in a week or less. However, wearing a tampon and sexual intercourse should be postponed for 4 – 6 weeks. Dr. Canales and Dr. Furnas will carefully monitor your recovery progression, giving their approval for physical activities.
What are the potential risks of a labia majoraplasty?
While a labia majoraplasty performed by Dr. Canales or Dr. Furnas at Plastic Surgery Associates Santa Rosa is a safe and effective procedure, it is still a surgical procedure; therefore, it holds a small chance for complications. Risks can include unexpected bleeding, hematoma, infection, scarring, and asymmetry.
