About Clitoral Hood Reduction
The clitoris is a small, sensitive organ that is responsible for sexual pleasure. This part of the female genitalia is surrounded by a fold of skin called the clitoral hood. For some women, this form of tissue can be overly large, which can cause an unattractive appearance and can prevent a woman from having an orgasm. A clitoral hood reduction or clitoroplasty is a cosmetic surgery that recontours or improves the appearance of a woman's clitoris. This procedure can be performed for both aesthetic and medical reasons and is usually performed in conjunction with labiaplasty or vaginoplasty. If you are interested in learning more about clitoral hood reduction, call Plastic Surgery Associates of Santa Rosa in Santa Rosa, CA. Our board-certified plastic surgeons, Drs. Francisco Canales and Heather Furnas, will be happy to sit down with you to see if this procedure is right for you.
"Breast augmentation was something I'd always dreamed of but it also seemed so daunting! I barely had the guts to call Dr. Furnas's office. I was completely blown away at how open and caring they were, even on that first call, and especially the first visit. It was important that I felt safe, listened to, respected, and the whole team just went above and beyond it all. It was neat to find out Dr. Furnas is also an artist! If she had the eye to be an amazing artist then she would see every detail needed to do well with symmetry and surgery. It was also especially important that my plastic surgeon be a woman. Being unconscious for a surgery is scary, and it was a privilege to have an all female team. Surgery was January 2020 and the results are already beyond my very best expectations, I finally feel confident and free in my body. I can wear the tops I always wanted, no more crazy uncomfortable padded push up bras! Who knew silicone could make you feel MORE authentic?"- A.L. / Yelp / Feb 28, 2020
"I absolutely love this place! I had my lips done about 2 years ago I tagged a long with a friend of mine who would come here regularly and my experience was wonderful! Then I had my boobs done back in May because of so many people I know who went here and all I heard was good reviews! My experience was amazing the customer service is always amazing everyone is so kind and sweet and helpful! I am so happy with my boob job everything went exactly as they told me it would. I just had a tummy tuck 2 days ago and I wanted to make sure to leave a review because I again am beyond happy with my results and overall my entire experience! I highly recommend this place to anyone! I saw Dr Fernus for both my surgeries she is so sweet! Definitely worth every penny I feel so much better about myself since my operations!"- W.W. / Yelp / Nov 20, 2019
"Great, Amazing place good outcome"- L.J. / Facebook / Nov 15, 2019
"I am so happy with my results. I had an awful double chin issue that would not go away with diet or exercise. I tried Kybella with a different facility and received little to no results. Dr. Furnas did chin lipo for me and the results are fantastic. I had a lot of scar tissue due to the Kybella but she was able to still do a phenomenal job. My overall experience has been great and everyone there is so sweet and attentive. I've also been going there for all my botox needs. If anyone is at all on the fence about getting botox, I highly recommend going for it at this place. No pain and the results are the best. I look amazing, THANK YOU!"- M.G. / Google / Oct 18, 2019
"Dr Furnas and her team are a class act! From consultation to surgery to post op they are seamless! This is the second time I’ve seen Dr Furnas. During the consult she took her time answered all of my questions and gave me her honest opinion! I’m very happy with the results and would recommend! Her office team is also wonderful. I give 5 Stars 🌟"- M.M. / Facebook / Oct 18, 2019
A clitoral hood reduction is used to address cosmetic and medical reasons. When performed as a medical treatment, it rejuvenates the appearance of the clitoris following trauma or injury. It is also included as part of the treatment for some congenital disorders affecting the female genital area. You are a good candidate for this procedure if you:
- Feel self-conscious that your clitoral hood skin is too long or large
- Have difficulty cleaning and maintaining hygiene because of a long clitoral hood
- Feel that the clitoral hood interferes with sexual stimulation
- Suffer from a medical condition, such as clitoromegaly or congenital adrenal hyperplasia
At the start of your procedure, Dr. Canales or Dr. Furnas will gently apply a topical anesthetic to the target area. They will also inject a long-acting numbing formula in the vaginal area to provide extra comfort. From there, a V-wedge is made over the clitoral hood to carefully remove the skin. Absorbable sutures are then placed, and patients will be given specific aftercare instructions to ensure proper healing
What to Expect
After your surgery, you can expect to experience soreness and mild discomfort for about 2 – 4 weeks, but a compression garment will be provided to help ease any pain. Over-the-counter medication can also provide additional comfort. You will need to refrain from strenuous activity for several weeks or until cleared by Dr. Canales or Dr. Furnas. Sexual intercourse can be resumed in about a month after your surgery. Most patients generally return to work in about a week and can see optimal results at around 3 – 6 months.
