About Eyelid Surgery
A person's eyes are a beautiful feature of the face that deserve to be visible, but sometimes an excess of skin around the eyes can produce a tired and unflattering facial appearance. Plastic surgeons Drs. Francisco Canales and Heather Furnas use eyelid surgery (known as blepharoplasty) to reduce excess skin and rejuvenate the lower or upper eyelid, creating a more "alert" look. So many men and women receive eyelid surgery at Plastic Surgery Associates of Santa Rosa to eliminate saggy eyelids, leading to improved functionality and facial appearance. Blepharoplasty, whether lower or upper, creates a more awakened appearance and can give you natural yet noticeable improvements. If you want to learn more about refreshing your eyes with eyelid lift surgery, contact us to schedule a consultation with one of our seasoned plastic surgeons at our practice in Santa Rosa, CA.
"Breast augmentation was something I'd always dreamed of but it also seemed so daunting! I barely had the guts to call Dr. Furnas's office. I was completely blown away at how open and caring they were, even on that first call, and especially the first visit. It was important that I felt safe, listened to, respected, and the whole team just went above and beyond it all. It was neat to find out Dr. Furnas is also an artist! If she had the eye to be an amazing artist then she would see every detail needed to do well with symmetry and surgery. It was also especially important that my plastic surgeon be a woman. Being unconscious for a surgery is scary, and it was a privilege to have an all female team. Surgery was January 2020 and the results are already beyond my very best expectations, I finally feel confident and free in my body. I can wear the tops I always wanted, no more crazy uncomfortable padded push up bras! Who knew silicone could make you feel MORE authentic?"- A.L. / Yelp / Feb 28, 2020
"I absolutely love this place! I had my lips done about 2 years ago I tagged a long with a friend of mine who would come here regularly and my experience was wonderful! Then I had my boobs done back in May because of so many people I know who went here and all I heard was good reviews! My experience was amazing the customer service is always amazing everyone is so kind and sweet and helpful! I am so happy with my boob job everything went exactly as they told me it would. I just had a tummy tuck 2 days ago and I wanted to make sure to leave a review because I again am beyond happy with my results and overall my entire experience! I highly recommend this place to anyone! I saw Dr Fernus for both my surgeries she is so sweet! Definitely worth every penny I feel so much better about myself since my operations!"- W.W. / Yelp / Nov 20, 2019
"Great, Amazing place good outcome"- L.J. / Facebook / Nov 15, 2019
"I am so happy with my results. I had an awful double chin issue that would not go away with diet or exercise. I tried Kybella with a different facility and received little to no results. Dr. Furnas did chin lipo for me and the results are fantastic. I had a lot of scar tissue due to the Kybella but she was able to still do a phenomenal job. My overall experience has been great and everyone there is so sweet and attentive. I've also been going there for all my botox needs. If anyone is at all on the fence about getting botox, I highly recommend going for it at this place. No pain and the results are the best. I look amazing, THANK YOU!"- M.G. / Google / Oct 18, 2019
"Dr Furnas and her team are a class act! From consultation to surgery to post op they are seamless! This is the second time I’ve seen Dr Furnas. During the consult she took her time answered all of my questions and gave me her honest opinion! I’m very happy with the results and would recommend! Her office team is also wonderful. I give 5 Stars 🌟"- M.M. / Facebook / Oct 18, 2019
Upper or lower blepharoplasty is a facial cosmetic enhancement that is performed on both women and men. At your first visit, treatment options will be explained by Dr. Canales or Dr. Furnas based on your areas of concern that need to be corrected. Generally, ideal candidates have excess drooping skin and folds that exist on the top eyelid, or bloated skin just under the bottom eyelid. These irregularities can cause functional and vision difficulties that can get in the way of normal, everyday activities. For a more awake look, blepharoplasty may be the appropriate surgery for you. If you have hanging skin that folds over on the upper eyelid or bulging bags under the eyes, blepharoplasty can treat this to provide you with a more youthful appearance.
Depending on the type and complex nature of the eyelid surgery, some form of anesthesia will be provided. This treatment may be done on the top eyelid by itself, under or on the bottom eyelid, or a blend of both eyelids.
Upper eyelid surgery assists in decreasing the folds of skin that impair vision to produce a more awakened and appealing look. The incision point is often placed along the lid crease to excise loose skin and fatty tissue.
Eyelid correction on the lower lid is performed to improve puffy and bulging skin beneath the lower lid. In most cases, an incision is carefully made along the lash line to surgically remove tissue and fat, and the skin is subtly lifted to allow for a softer, flatter look. Sometimes a nonsurgical laser procedure may be incorporated to help with discoloration while fillers can be used for more smoothness and softening if desired.
What to Expect
Blepharoplasty can take up to two hours considering whether both eyes or one is treated. After this outpatient surgery, you should plan about a week to recover and rest at home. A cold compress can assist in reducing discomfort, swelling, and bruising. The outcomes from blepharoplasty may last a decade or longer, but while they are long-lasting, aging does not stop. To maintain your surgical outcomes, other nonsurgical cosmetic treatments at Plastic Surgery Associates of Santa Rosa, such as fillers, peels, and lasers, can be added to create a youthful-looking appearance.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does eyelid surgery cost?
Blepharoplasty costs will vary based on whether you're getting a lower eyelid lift, upper, or both. When your surgical plan is decided in your initial consultation with Dr. Canales or Dr. Furnas, your Patient Coordinator will go over the cost estimate. For results that look natural and last for many years, it's better to concentrate on choosing an experienced plastic surgeon whom you are comfortable with, like Dr. Canales and Dr. Furnas, rather than looking for the lowest cost. To help you afford great results, Plastic Surgery Associates of Santa Rosa takes several payment methods, including low-interest financing.
What are some other benefits of an eyelid lift?
Eyelid surgery doesn't just help to rejuvenate your face, it can also give you other benefits. You may discover your vision field is greater once excess, hanging skin on your upper eyelid is gone. It is also easier to put on eye shadow and other makeup once your upper lid is smooth. Getting rid of fine lines, paper-thin skin, dark circles, and puffy bags on your lower eyelid may help your eyes appear fuller and brighter without a lot of makeup.
Will an eyelid lift fix wrinkles and Crow's feet?
Wrinkles on your forehead and the corners of your eyes (Crow's feet) might be better corrected with a brow lift or facelift because the improvements of blepharoplasty are limited to the upper or lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty may be performed with a nonsurgical treatment, like BOTOX, which can smooth wrinkles around the eyes and on the forehead. Wrinkle fillers, like Juvéderm or Restylane, may help to add volume for a smoother appearance. In your initial consultation, Dr. Canales or Dr. Furnas will develop your personal treatment plan to fit your goals.
What about nonsurgical treatments instead of eye surgery?
Noninvasive skin tightening procedures, plus injectable treatments (for example, BOTOX, Juvéderm, and Restylane) may give you mild improvements. Although, if you want to fix moderate to severe loose skin or would like to see results that last a long time, eyelid surgery is better for your needs. After you tell our plastic surgeons about your needs and goals, they will give you their suggestions for a surgical or nonsurgical treatment plan. They might also recommend both nonsurgical and surgical procedures for ideal results.
